Term 2 Week 9 - June 20th, 2023

St Joseph’s School Futures Working Group - interested??
As you would be aware our Parent Forum meeting last week became a community meeting attended by Diocesan Review Commission and Catholic Schools Office leadership representatives. The Director of Schools, Adam Spencer, addressed the attendees regarding the future of our school. In short, there have been no decisions made on the site or future of St Joseph’s Primary, South Murwillumbah. We will continue to operate as normal (unless there is another flood event) on this site for at least the next 5-10 years.
It was established at the meeting that a group of community members be set up as a consultant group moving forward to ensure our community is informed and has a voice in CSO future planning for our school. This group is titled the St Joseph’s School Futures Working Group. If you are interested in joining this group please complete the Expression of Interest Form.
Dear Parents and Carers,
It is hard to believe that it is Week 9 already! The term has been another busy one with an abundance of learning and plenty of extra curricular events! Students have been immersed in summative assessment over the past few weeks in preparation for the collation of their end of semester academic reports. While the reports are still being finalised by teachers I am enjoying beginning the task of reading all student’s reports prior to them being released to you. They will be made available to parents and carers next Tuesday. A notification will be sent to you when your child’s report is ready for your viewing through the Compass app.
Our Public Speaking Competition is getting underway this week with Stage 2, while the other stages will present their speeches next week. I have been so impressed by the number of students who have nominated themselves for the challenge. Public speaking is a very daunting activity for most, so to see so many students opting in goes to show just how confident and resilient our students are! Best wishes to all for the competition!
We have been blessed by the generosity of Ursula Wharton (Journalist, mother of Zoe) and Sandra Guthrie (Toastmaster, Grandmother of Lyla and Mia), who will be at school today and tomorrow making themselves available to students who would like to share their speeches and gain feedback and tips to help them improve their speeches in preparation for the competition. We thank them for their initiative and enthusiasm to support our students in developing their public speaking skills.
Have a great week!
Peace and blessings,
Jason Clarke

One More Special Candidate
Lalyta Brockbank was a very brave Holy Communion candidate on Saturday evening. She was unable to attend the Sacrament of Holy Communion the previous week with her classmates and friends from the Parish however, this didn't stop her! She was a little nervous but managed to find the courage to step forward and receive the Eucharist on her own. Congratulations Lalyta, Welcome to the family!
