St Joseph’s School Futures Working Group - interested??
As you would be aware our Parent Forum meeting last week became a community meeting attended by Diocesan Review Commission and Catholic Schools Office leadership representatives. The Director of Schools, Adam Spencer, addressed the attendees regarding the future of our school. In short, there have been no decisions made on the site or future of St Joseph’s Primary, South Murwillumbah. We will continue to operate as normal (unless there is another flood event) on this site for at least the next 5-10 years.
It was established at the meeting that a group of community members be set up as a consultant group moving forward to ensure our community is informed and has a voice in CSO future planning for our school. This group is titled the St Joseph’s School Futures Working Group. If you are interested in joining this group please complete the Expression of Interest Form.
Dear Parents and Carers,
The end of term is upon us! It has been a most rewarding and action packed term of learning and community building. I would like to express, on behalf of the staff, our gratitude for the support our parents, carers and family members have provided throughout the term. Events have been very well attended and as a result I believe we are starting to move beyond the pandemic and are getting our school community feel back!
I hope that all of our families, students and staff have a relaxing and safe holiday. I look forward to our school community returning for a positive and rewarding Semester 2.
Student Academic Reports - available today 27th June through Compass
Parents and Carers can only access the student reports through the Compass portal.
Student academic reports have been compiled and are ready for parents and carers to access from today.
I have enjoyed reading all of the reports and I congratulate all of the students for their wonderful efforts and achievements this semester. I also congratulate the teaching staff for the manner they have expressed the intimate knowledge they have of their students as both individual personalities and academic achievers.
Please take the time to carefully read and reflect on the report with your child. Celebrate the achievements and attend to the challenges!
If you would like to discuss any aspect of the report with your child’s classroom teacher, please make contact with the school to do so. Parent Teacher Interviews are scheduled for week 9 of term 3.
Thursday is our term 2 rewards day and the final day for students this term as the staff have a Spirituality Formation Professional Development day on Friday. The school will be closed on Friday as all staff will be at an off site venue for the day. The first day back for students Term 3 will be Tuesday 18th July as Monday 17th July is a pupil free professional development day for staff (Lynn Sharratt Learning Collaborative).
Please note that there is another pupil free staff professional day (NSIT Review/Strategic Planning) scheduled for Monday 4th August.
Enjoy the break from the rigours of school life over the next two weeks!
Peace and blessings,
Jason Clarke - Principal

Disciples in Action
Bonnie and Annabel wasted no time at all learning the ropes to being of service on the Altar during Mass. Bonnie made her debut on Sunday morning two weeks ago, whilst Annabel had her first experience with Bonnie at the Stage 1 & 2 class Mass last Wednesday. Annabel backed it up with altar serving this last Sunday morning.
Here's what they had to say:
Bonnie:
Why did you want to be an Altar Server? I wanted to work with the priest and be an example for all the kids in the school from Kinder to Year 6.
How are you an example? I show everyone how to be reverent
Also how to have a good relationship with the priest.
I think it's good to do because it might encourage others to become Baptised and be a part of the Catholic family community. Receiving the Sacraments is important.
It was great to be with Jana too.
Annabel:
How do you feel about being an Altar Server for the first time at the weekend Mass? I was a bit scared and worried about forgetting everything I had to do.
Bailey and Pat helped me a lot - they made me feel calm.
Did you know you were going to become an Altar Server?
I knew I was going to do it because Jesus would want me to.
Being an Altar Server is interesting and fun.

Public Speaking
Congratulations to all the wonderful public speakers who participated in their class and stage public speaking this week. There was a wonderful response to the opt in platform from each class.
As always, the speeches were of a very high standard and the audience was both informed and entertained over a range of topics.
The stage finalists will be announced this week giving the students time to prepare and rehearse for the finals. Our stage finals will be conducted on Tuesday the 29th of July, Week 2 of Term 3 here at school with the winners going on to represent the school at the Tweed Zone Public Speaking Competition on Thursday the 10th August.

Drawing Us Together
This term our Stage 3 students have been working on Indigenous Art work for the "Drawing Us Together" art project with Mrs H. It is based on a picture book- Gami Winda and Dyindi-Dyindi, by Bianca F. Stawiarski. This project has been organised by Charter Hall in Sunnyside Murwillumbah and has allowed our students to enter the artworks to be voted on over the next couple of weeks during Naidoc Week, in the hope that our students will get their artwork published in the book.
Well done to all of our artists involved and good luck!
DRAWING US TOGETHER
Exhibition and Community Voting.
Don't forget to go into Sunnyside THIS WEEK and vote for your favourite artwork completed by some of our St Joseph's students.

SPORTS GRANT FOR TERM 3!
We have been successful in acquiring the Sporting Schools Grant for Term 3 which means we can book a professional coach to come to our school as one of the sports in our Elective Sports Program! I have had a lot of students asking for an opportunity to experience AFL, so with this in mind I have booked an AFL coach to come to school as one of the options in our Elective Sport program. Kinder, Year 1 and Year 2 will get to experience AFL as part of their Friday school sport and the students who choose AFL for their elective sport in years 3 -6 will also get to work with this coach. This sport will be free thanks to the grant. The other options for Yrs 3 - 6 Elective Sport are as follows: Circus, Gym and Combat. Students in Yrs 3 – 6 will receive their nomination note in week one. Elective Sport begins in week 3. Looking forward to a fun and varied Term 3 of sport!
ZONE ATHLETICS QUALIFIERS:
I will announce the Zone qualifiers this Thursday and send home a note showing who is in what events. I will also post the information on Compass. The nomination document has only just been sent out for schools to enter into as most schools are doing their carnivals in the last two weeks of Term 2. Thank you for your patience in waiting for these results. Zone Athletics is week 2, Friday 28th July at Cudgen athletics track.
