Term 3 Week 6- August 22nd, 2023
From the Principals Desk
Dear Parents and Carers,
Students living out our values!
I attended the ‘Combat’ elective sport group last Friday. I now know why so many of our students enjoy this activity outside of school hours as well! An up close and personal experience for the children where they learn skills, techniques and a little science behind the art of physical ‘combat’.
While I enjoyed watching the students so engaged in the activities, it was the final conversation with the instructors that impressed me most - “St Joey’s kids are great to work with - they encourage each other, and are always so respectful, of us and each other, and willing to participate and mix around with any partner throughout the session with total engagement.”
Well done to our students! Keep up the great modelling of the values we foster at St Joseph’s!

A Day to Remember: Exploring the World of Stories with Author Zanni Louise
We're excited to share the wonderful experience our Year 5 and 6 students had last Thursday when they embarked on a captivating literary journey to meet the renowned author, Zanni Louise. It was a great lead up to our Book Week celebrations that begin on 4th August.
A Glimpse into Zanni Louise's World
Zanni Louise, a celebrated author known for her engaging storytelling, welcomed our students into her creative world. With a passion for igniting imagination and nurturing a love for reading among young minds, Zanni Louise shared her insights and journey as a writer.
A Day of Discovery: The Highlights
The day was filled with excitement as our students had the opportunity to interact with Zanni. She shared her experiences, creative process, and the inspiration behind her beloved stories.
During the interactive session, our students eagerly asked questions, discussed their favourite characters, and delved into the process of bringing fictional worlds to life. Zanni's warmth and enthusiasm resonated with our young readers, making the experience both insightful and memorable.
Inspiring Young Writers
Zanni’s visit left a lasting impact on our students. As they listened to her tales of writing adventures, they gained a deeper appreciation for the art of storytelling. Zanni's words inspired our young writers to explore their own creativity, fostering a belief that their own stories are waiting to be told.
Quotes from Stage 3
“She was funny. I enjoyed helping her to make her next book” Blake Stuart
“Her books were interesting and she had some fun games to explain what happened in her stories.” Asha Pahlow
“I was nervous about performing a song in front of everyone.” Declan Behan
“She is inspiring! She showed us some fun ways to create characters.” Amy Pham
“Her ideas were great and it made me want to participate.” Zilli Hatton
Thank you to Murwillumbah Library for making this wonderful event possible.

AFL AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM:
The AFL After School Program started last Thursday 17th August on the Mt St Patrick’s school oval with a great turnout! It is not too late to join in the fun! It will run for five more Thursdays from 3.15pm – 4.15pm. There is a bus that takes students from St Joseph’s to Mt St Patrick’s (teachers on bus duty will show students what bus to catch) and parents can meet them there. Parents can scan the “Register” QR Code to register / pay for the program. It’s a great way to be active after school without committing to a full season of sport! Students played fun games and activities that builds skills to best prepare them for the game of AFL with a variety of friends from Joeys, Mt St Pat’s and Dungay.
