Term 3 Week 10- September 19th, 2023
From The Principals Desk
Dear Parents and Carers,
The final days of term are upon us, and some exciting days they will be! From Wednesday until Friday we have our Stage 2 students and staff heading off to Camp Goodenough and Stage 3 students and staff heading off to Tallebudgera Gold Coast Recreation Precinct. I know the students are extremely excited on the eve of their camp experiences. There is always a high level of organisation that precedes these types of events, both at school for the staff and at home for students and their families. Thank you to all who have contributed to the organisation of what we hope will be a memorable time for the students. My sincere gratitude is also extended to the staff who are giving generously of their time to spend the time away with the students.
While the school will be a much quieter place over the final days of term without stages 2 and 3, Thursday will see the school empty of students as K-2 head off to Cramms Farm for their excursion.
Year 2 held their co-created liturgy this afternoon. By ‘co-created’ we mean that the students have designed and created the liturgy themselves. They have chosen their own personal participation and all aspects of the liturgy within the theme of the unit of work they have been doing. These co-created liturgies are very powerful for the students. We thank all those families who have supported the students enthusiasm and excitement by joining with the classes as they celebrate in prayer.
We held our final Forum meeting for the term last night. Due to the minimal numbers present, no final decision was made on the model of ‘parent forum’ for 2024 onwards. We will be reopening the voting via mail out for interested families to have your say early next term.
The close of a term always comes with a sigh of relief from all stakeholders; students, staff and families! It has been another busy, successful term. I congratulate the students in particular for the ongoing engagement with their learning, the support of our families and the passion and commitment of the staff. Enjoy the spring break!
Peace and blessings,
Jason Clarke

TOWN LIBRARY VISIT
As part of our celebration of Book Week, students from kindergarten to year 4 embarked on a delightful journey to our local town library. It was truly an enriching experience!
To kick off the day, the classes delved into this year's selection of short-listed books and were treated to a video book reading session. The library staff introduced us to the myriad of fantastic services the library offers, including borrowing audio and ebooks, learning-to-read materials, magazines, puzzles, games, and much more. Additionally, we learned about a fascinating opportunity during school holidays where children can borrow sets of books known as "Binge Boxes" (details available in the flyer below).
Following this introduction, the students were divided into two groups. The first group had the privilege of embarking on a VIP tour of the library, gaining insight into the inner workings of the back room. They also had the chance to borrow a book each using the state-of-the-art book scanning machine and returned them through the return chute located outside. Subsequently, the students retrieved their selected books from a huge cupboard behind the front desk and placed them on the return trolley.
The next engaging activity involved participated in an entertaining scavenger hunt within the library. The objective was to locate specific resources, such as a red book, a book featuring the letter "P" from the picture book section, or a book with an animal illustration on its cover. This engaging exercise not only made learning fun but also imparted valuable knowledge about how the library is organised and how to find desired books.
Before bidding farewell, most classes were generously gifted with badges, stickers, and a book to take home, courtesy of the charitable organisation "123 Read to Me."
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Kym Thomson and the welcoming staff at the Richmond Tweed Regional Library for hosting us on this memorable occasion.
NAIDOC Week
NAIDOC Week, is a fantastic opportunity for students to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrating the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.
The theme this year is ‘For our Elders.’ Across every generation, our Elders have played, and continue to play, an important role and hold a prominent place in our community and families.
Our school paid respect in many ways, such as a flag ceremony and prayer, fun games, and a collaborative artwork designed by Mrs H but completed by every student in the school. You will soon see this art displayed in our Undercroft.

NFL FLAG GALA DAY:
Recently a team was submitted from Year 5 and Year 6 students to attend the NFL Flag Gala Day at Arkinstall Park. Our team: Blake Stuart, Zilli Hatton, Caleb Bourke, Kody Smith, Oskar Buckroyd, Damon Woodward, Zac Stuart, Max Bourke and Fynn Bloomfield; had a fantastic day learning the finer points to the very exciting and strategic game of NFL.
They played four games with their first being a very close loss to Kingscliff Public followed by an exciting win against Brunswick Heads Public. Next was a tough game against Lidisfarne who went on to win the tournament and finished up with a very close game against St Joseph’s Tweed Heads. Mr Evans said that his team looked like they were very close to scoring once more to take the win but they ultimately ran out of time. He was very proud of his team and loved every minute working with them. Well done boys!
TWEED ZONE SUMMER SPORT TRIALS
As Term 3 comes to a close and we look forward to a break, I just wanted to let families know that the first week back in Term 4 will be a time for interested students in Year 4 and Year 5 to nominate themselves for the Tweed Zone Summer Trials in the following sports: Touch Football, Basketball, Tennis, Cricket and Softball.
Each school may send up to six students (six boys and six girls) to progress onto the Tweed Zone Trials. These trials will take place in week 4 or week 5 (depending on the sport) and information will be distributed well before Zone Trials. These trials follow a similar pathway just like swimming, cross country and athletics with Diocesan Summer Trials taking place in Lismore – week 7. Polding Trials will take place in Term 1, 2024 which is why students in Year 6 are not able to participate.
Students who nominate themselves must play the sport outside of school (understand the rules and have a strong skill base). If more than six students nominate for any given sport, a school trial will need to take place to determine the six to progress to Zone. A great reason to keep up the training over the holidays ready for Summer Trials!
Enjoy your well-earned holiday, ready to return for an exciting Term of sport with our Infants Swimming Program, Primary Swim Safety Program, School Swimming Carnival, end of Term Colour Run just to name a few!
The League Stars Holiday Clinic will be at Murwillumbah Leagues Club, this clinic will focus on key skills and games involved in playing rugby league, we will have skilled Game Development and Assistant Game Development officers that will facilitate this session making sure all participants have fun while learning about Rugby League! 10:00am start with the clinic concluding at 12:00pm This is a FREE clinic Please bring appropriate uniforms to run in such as joggers / football boots, hats, sunscreen. Please also bring a water bottle.
