From The Principals Desk
Dear Parents and Carers,
Term 4 is under way! We had a very nice start back last week, and as always we look forward to the final term of the year providing opportunities for all to consolidate and celebrate their learning journeys and hard work throughout the year.
Enrolment - Junior Joey’s begins this Friday!
We welcome our ‘Junior Joeys’ this Friday. It is always an exciting time of the year when we welcome our kindergarten class for the following year into our midst for their transition experience. We have 27 enthusiastic children attending. This is a larger intake than usual as we had such high numbers of enquiries from families wishing to join our learning community. This higher number has also arisen due to the group containing 20 siblings of current families in our school already.
We are farewelling our smallest class (Year 6) in the school at the end of the year, so this coupled with a higher intake into kinder and the intake of some new families in other grades we should see our school enrolment grow from 152 in 2023 to 164 in 2024.
Parent Forum meeting - 5.30pm Tuesday 24th October
As per the email and attachment sent out last week, I hope families have considered, and voted for, the format of Parent/Community Representative Body that will be instituted for 2024.
The meeting on Tuesday next week at 5.30pm in the assembly room will see this decision finalised by those present. There will be further items on the agenda such as our next disco, Parish Christmas Carnival BBQ and the Forum Colour Run and Fun day for the students at the end of the year.
Please come along to be informed, have your say and to support the parents who have been the resilient mainstays of the Parent Forum!
As the term continues to roll on, please ensure that you keep up to date with the events listed on our calendar on the website.
Looking forward to a positive term ahead! Have a nice week.
Peace and blessings,
Jason Clarke

GOD MOMENT
When Archie and Hyde spoke beautifully to each other.
Year 2 Co-Created Liturgy
To finish Term 3 our very eager Year 2 students shared the most beautiful co-created Liturgy with family and staff. Co-created Liturgy is exactly that! The students were responsible for co-creating each component of the Liturgy, bringing their knowledge of the content studied during Religious Education lessons as well as their own creativity and flare. The theme was one often addressed at St Joseph's - 'Love one another.' I encourage each of you to attend a Liturgy or Mass that has been co-created by our wonderful students. It was a wonderful experience to witness!
God Bless, Mrs Hughes
Exciting Sacramental News
The last month has been extremely busy with some of our students and families preparing for Baptisms and/or Confirmation.
Last weekend Bella & Clara Higgins made their Baptism together, a lovely memory for two sisters to share. Bella also joined her friends - Charlotte, Pippa, Levi, Alayah, Shelby, Lorenzo, Peggy, and more friends from our parish community in making their Sacrament of Confirmation on Tuesday evening last week. Congratulations go to all students who continued their faith journey with us this year. May God hold you in the palm of his hand as you make your way through life with the gifts of the Spirit.
If you have been considering the Catholic faith for your child, monthly Baptism meetings are held every second Tuesday of each month. Please contact Barb Grant on 6672 1118 to make an appointment.

MEET THE AUTHOR
Over the course of Term 3, Kinder busily worked towards learning about what makes a sentence exciting. They were then set with the task to create their own exciting text and they did so with confidence and persistence. Kinder families were invited to come and view their creations and they were, indeed, entertained!
Well done Kindergarten and thank you to our wonderful readers for coming in and meeting the authors!

-Infants Day In-
To end another wonderful term, Kinder, Year 1 and 2 joined together to celebrate their learning. We watched the Lorax and did some Lorax themed craft to compliment our adventure yesterday, where we went to Crams Farm. What a wonderful way to end our term.

Stage 3
Our Stage 3 Camp at Tallebudgera Sport and Recreation Centre was an unforgettable adventure! It was an absolute blast. First off, we faced the ultimate challenge: the high ropes course. We were way up high, balancing on ropes, swinging from one platform to another. It was nerve-wracking, but also incredibly exciting. We helped each other, cheered one another on, and conquered our fears together. Then, we hit the beach for some serious bodyboarding. The feeling of catching a wave and riding it to the shore was indescribable – the rush of adrenaline, the taste of the salty sea breeze, it was like being in a real-life adventure movie! But wait, there's more. We tapped into our inner artists and designed and built our own kites. Picture this: the sky filled with a kaleidoscope of colours as our kites soared high, showcasing our creativity for everyone to see. Each one was unique, just like us. This experience taught us not just about teamwork and courage but also about the joy of creativity and the thrill of trying new things. It was more than just a Camp; it was a journey of self-discovery and friendship that we'll remember for a lifetime!

SUMMER SPORTS TRIALS
Nominations are now open to all students in Years 4 and 5 who play the following sport at a high level: Tennis, Basketball, Touch Football, Cricket and Softball. Each school is allowed to send six students to Zone trials (6 boys and 6 girls) in each of the above sports. I met with interested students last week to record nominations. The only group that requires a school trial, is the Girls Touch Football. Last Friday we started the trialing process for these students and will have one more session this Friday at afternoon tea. Zone trials will be in week 4 or week 5 depending on the sport. School, Zone and Diocesan trials will take place this term with Polding taking place early Term 1 of next year; this is why the trials are only open to Years 4 & 5 as Year 6 students will be in high school. The online nomination form closes this Wednesday at 3pm! If you are having difficulty completing this form, please ask your class teacher as they are able to help you with it.
PRIMARY SWIMMING PROGRAM
The Primary Swimming Program begins next week and runs for five consecutive weeks. Please ensure permission and payment is complete ready for next week’s first session.
INTENSIVE SWIMMING – INFANTS
This term, students in Kinder, Year 1 and Year 2 will participate in the Intensive Swimming Program which begins in Week 6 and will run every day for two weeks (excluding Fridays). This 30min swim lesson is a great way to build water confidence, technique and strength with their classmates leading into the summer period. More information will come as the program gets closer.
FIVE A SIDE SUMMER HOCKEY
Our local Hockey club is running a five a side summer comp starting this Wednesday and running for 8 weeks. Teams can be mixed or all boys / all girls. You may enter as a single player or arrange a maximum of 8 players to create your own team. The junior comp is open to students from Years 3 - 6 and will be held every Wednesday from 5pm – 6pm starting next week. It will be played on a ¼ field and is a great
way to enjoy the game of Hockey without committing to a full season! There’s also a High school competition, Seniors and Over 50’s comp. For more information, please follow the link: www.hockeytweed.com.au

Save water to delay restrictions
Following the El Nino declaration by the Bureau of Meteorology and less than average rainfall now forecast for the Northern Rivers, Tweed Shire Council is urging everyone in the Tweed to save water to prolong the shire’s water supply.
Without significant rain, the Tweed is heading into water restrictions.
Council is asking everyone who lives, works and plays in the Tweed to unite and save water now.
Level 1 water restrictions for most of the Tweed will be triggered when the Clarrie Hall Dam level drops to 85% full. If each of us is using less than 160 litres of water a day when water restrictions are introduced, we delay the need to impose harsh restrictions during extended dry periods.
Some great water-saving tips for families include cleaning hard outdoor surfaces with a broom not a hose, mulching your garden, keeping your showers to 4 minutes, doing full loads of washing and fixing your water leaks indoors and out.
Go to tweed.nsw.gov.au/water-savings-restrictions for more tips.
In 2020, Council banned water carting from Tyalgum and Uki. Whenever water restrictions are triggered, Council bans water carting from elsewhere in the Tweed to other local government areas.
Council is currently completing planning works for the proposed raising of Clarrie Hall Dam to increase the volume of water that can be stored, securing our water supply in the face of climate change and population growth.
