From The Principals Desk
Dear Parents and Carers,
The term is well underway with week 4 already upon us.
Our Junior Joey’s have entered their transition program with smiles and enthusiasm! It has been a pleasure welcoming our new kindergarten class of 2024 into our midst. While Mrs Traise, Mrs Sharp and Mrs Walker have done a wonderful job with them, I must express our gratitude to our Year 5 students for their quality contribution in welcoming them and encouraging them to be brave, to participate and join in to our St Joseph’s family.
As we draw closer to the end of the year we begin our preparations for 2024. We are announcing our class teachers for 2024. This will allow students to begin to form relationships with their teachers for next year as they move about the school over the final weeks of this year. A full staff list for 2024 will be announced in the coming weeks.
Class Teachers 2024
Kindergarten teacher - Sandra Traise
Year 1 teacher - Cassie Gale
Year 2 teachers - Kendal James/Chanel Boyle
Year 3 teacher - Ben Jeffree
Year 4 teacher - Barb Quinn
Year 5 teacher - Rachel Martin
Year 6 teacher - Annabelle Nance
We will be welcoming Annabelle Nance as Year 6 teacher for 2024 and sadly farewelling Ray Nihill (retirement) and Berenice Sidorko at the end of this year.
A reminder that next Monday 6th November is a pupil free staff development day. The staff will be undertaking professional development on the new 3-6 Syllabus that is to be implemented next year. We thank you for your ongoing support of the professional development of our teaching staff.
Also, keep an eye out for a homework survey that will be forwarded to all families this week. The stage 2 students have written very persuasive letters to me to review our homework policy (or quite bluntly, to cancel homework!), in line with hearing and honouring our student voice, I will be reviewing the homework policy by seeking feedback from all stakeholders; students, parents/carers and staff. I am very keen to hear the views of our community and to make the necessary changes to policy to suit our context.
Enjoy your week!
Peace and blessings,
Jason Clarke

Sharing the Gospel
Part of being a student disciple and sharing the Gospel message is to be of service to others and Altar serving is one way you can do this. We welcomed Taiis, Annabel, and Bonnie to the Sacred Heart Parish team a little while ago and more recently Sienna and Nate joined. Thank you to these five students for being the face of Jesus in our community. If you are an interested student who has made their Holy Communion, you can join the team too. See Mrs Hughes for more details.
Altar serving team continues to grow!
MINI VINNIES CHRISTMAS APPEAL
Mini Vinnies Christmas Appeal fundraiser is well underway with a huge success for the iceblock stall. Our Mini Vinnies team sends out a huge THANK YOU for supporting our fundraising events again and again. The money raised from each event will assist us in making Christmas a little better for some local families this year.
This year we raised $162.85!!
We all wanted an iceblock!
Mini Vinnies Cake Stall
Just a reminder to send in an item for the Mini Vinnies cake store fundraiser on Thursday morning with your child. Items will be selling for $1 each. Please have them ready and cut for the children to sell at the stall.
Thank you for your generosity and support in raising funds.
GOD MOMENT
When Year 5 welcomed our 2024 Kinders and their families to the St Joseph’s school community last Friday. They were a beautiful face of St Joseph’s.
Sacramental Celebrations Continue
Lani Smith celebrated her Holy Communion last weekend with her cousin Siena and family and friends. Congratulations Lani!
I believe you can see some Altar servers from St Joseph's in the background too!

SWIM SAFETY PROGRAM - PRIMARY
Our first week of the Primary Swim Safety Program has taken place with four more sessions to go, leading us right up to our Swimming Carnival. Students had a great first week trying their best and supporting each other. The Infants Intensive Program will begin in week 6 – Monday 13th November. A Compass permission note will go out by the end of this week.
SWIMMING CARNIVAL
The Swimming Carnival is set for Friday 1st December. The 50m pool at TRAC Murwillumbah is having major works done and is anticipated to be completed by Monday 4th December. The indoor pool will be available for our carnival if the outdoor pool is still in its maintenance phase. Due to the limited space we can only have Years 3 - 6 attend the carnival (the competitive aspect of the carnival). Any student in Year 1 or Year 2 who turns eight in 2024 and can confidently swim 50m will have the opportunity to race at the Primary Swimming Carnival. A note will go home to Year 1 and Year 2 explaining the details and parents can indicate that they would like their child to compete. Kate Betts (coordinator at Murwillumbah pool) will then assess their ability to swim 50m during the infants swimming program in week 6 and 7.
Records will not be able to be broken in a 25m pool but students will have the opportunity to attempt a school record once the 50m pool is up and running either at the Zone carnival or one of the Monday night races that the pool hosts.
