    From The Principals Desk

    Dear Parents and Carers,

We have had a great first week of school to begin term 3, with a definite highlight being yesterday afternoon with our very successful and enjoyable Grandparents Day! It is always wonderful to have our families in attendance for events and activities at the school. We began with a liturgy organised and presented by Mrs James and our Year 2 class, the church was at full capacity! Then we were blessed by a beautiful afternoon for our kite making activity on the bottom oval. We express our sincerest gratitude to our family members and grandparents for joining us for what was a wonderful afternoon!

    CJ Shaw Concert - Thursday

We are looking forward to our Lismore Catholic Schools Office funded concert with local musician CJ Shaw on Thursday morning. All students will enjoy the concert on Thursday morning, which will then be followed up with CJ workshopping with the Stage 2 students as they begin to co-construct a Bike Safety song that will be recorded over the coming weeks. We will keep you abreast of the development of this exciting project throughout the term. Our students will be working with CJ to promote bike safety throughout the schools in our diocese.

    Zone Athletics Carnival - Friday

We congratulate all students who have qualified for the Zone Athletics Carnival this Friday at Cudgen and wish them all the very best as they compete against other students from Catholic Schools across the Tweed Region. Good luck team!

Parent Teacher Interviews - Tuesday and Thursday Week 3

As you would be aware we have our Parent Teacher interviews taking place next week. Bookings have been open to parents since the holidays. You will notice that we have changed the format of the interviews this semester:

    • We are holding them over two evenings
    • Interview times have been lengthened to 15 minutes
    • Interviews will take place in the assembly room and in classrooms to alleviate noise; Tuesday K,1 & 2 in the assembly room, 3, 4, 5 & 6 in their classrooms.

    Thursday 3, 4, 5 & 6 in the assembly room, K, 1 & 2 in their classrooms.

If you haven’t booked your time please do so at your earliest convenience! We hope that everyone has had the opportunity to carefully read your child/ren’s reports available through Compass prior to the interview.

Regional Public Speaking Competition - Thursday 8th August

We wish our School Public Speaking Competition winners all the very best for the upcoming Regional Competition. I’m sure that you have all been practising and are ready to impress the adjudicators with your confident and creative presentations! Good luck to Dustin Casagrande, James Polson, Clara Polson, Harriet Stovold, Will Polson, Pippa Bourke, Bella Higgins and Max Bourke! I look forward to spending the day supporting you.

    Teaching Attendance!

On-time to school means your child is on track to unleash their potential.

Arriving on time to school is a fundamental aspect of a child's educational experience and plays a crucial role in unlocking their full potential. Here are several reasons why being on time to school is important for a child's academic and personal development:

      • Consistent Learning Opportunities. Being on time ensures that your child doesn't miss the beginning of lessons, announcements, or important information shared at the start of the school day. This consistency in attendance provides a steady flow of learning opportunities.
      • Establishing a Routine. Timely arrival helps children establish a morning routine, promoting organisation and time management skills. Consistent routines contribute to a sense of stability and preparedness for the day's activities.
    • Reduced Disruptions. Arriving on time minimises disruptions for both the child and the class. Late arrivals can interrupt the flow of lessons and can be distracting for the child and their peers.
    • Building Respect for Punctuality. Punctuality is a valuable life skill. By consistently arriving on time to school, children develop a sense of responsibility.

    Sharing the Gospel

Our thoughts and prayers are with Mrs Hughes and family as her beloved father passed away yesterday.

     GOD MOMENT

When Lola thought about her actions and said sorry to her friend. Their hearts became happy again.

    Grandparents Day

Side by side or far apart,
our Grandparents are always in our hearts.

What a wonderful afternoon we had here at St Joseph's for our incredible grandparents. Our beautiful Year 2 students presented a heartfelt liturgy in our church followed by some Kite Making in the playground.

We were blown away by how many grandparents showed up. We always love having our grandparents come in so we can show them how much we adore them.

Thank you to our Year 2 students and families for a wonderful afternoon.

    Write On Writing Competition

Each year the NSW government conducts a writing competition for students in Years 1-6. The challenge is to write a 500-word imaginative text using the image below. Schools are only allowed to enter one writing sample per stage. Students are asked to submit their creative text to their teacher. Multiple submissions are reviewed and the most creative gets submitted for the competition.
Congratulations to all of the students who participated in the competition this year.
Stage 3 Participation Award - Pearl Wilkinson and Indi Asanuma
Stage 3 Finalist - Ivy Hunt
Stage 2 Finalist - Will Polson
Stage 1 Finalist - Clara Polson

We certainly have some amazing creative writers at St Joseph's. Good luck to the finalists.

High Potential Learners at St Joseph's

Congratulations to Kobi Buckroyd and Ivy Hunt for completing their High Potential Learners course. Kobi and Ivy have learning online with a high school teacher each week to learn Stage 4-based curriculum content. Kobi was learning Year 7 and 8 Mathematics concepts and Ivy was being challenged at the high school level in English. They have both achieved outstanding results.

We would also like to congratulate Levi Campbell (Mathematics), Nate Linkins (English) and Imogen Rudman (English) who have qualified to participate in the next round of High Potential Learners from St Joseph's. We know you will enjoy the challenge of learning high school content and concepts.

    Leadership Day - Year 5

"Leadership is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way."

With these powerful words setting the tone,  Year 5 students commenced  their Leadership Training for being leaders of our school next year. Guided by Mrs Quinn & Mrs Martin, they embarked on a journey of learning and development through various fast paced, engaging activities.

Throughout the day, students eagerly tackled practical challenges and worked together on problem-solving exercises, showcasing their teamwork and critical thinking skills. Theoretical sessions deepened their understanding of leadership principles, sparking insightful conversations about what it means to lead effectively.

The energy and dedication displayed by our Year 5 students today highlight their readiness to step up as future leaders within our school community. This program aims to empower them with the tools and confidence to make a positive impact in their roles.

We are nurturing capable and compassionate leaders who will shape the future of St. Joseph’s Primary and beyond.

An awesome day was had by all!

    AFL AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM:

In just under two week’s time (Thursday 15th August – week 4) there will be an AFL After School Program commencing on the Mt St Patrick school oval!  It will run for six weeks – every Thursday from 3.20pm – 4.20pm.  St Joseph’s students may get on the bus at the end of their school day (teachers on bus duty will help them to know what bus they need to catch) and it will take the students to Mt St Patrick’s where an AFL coach will greet them from the bus and walk them to the oval. Parents may choose to test the first session for free or scan the “Register” QR Code to pay for the program.  This year there will be two programs taking place simultaneously to cater to the older students as well as the younger students.  It’s a great way to be active after school without committing to a full season of sport!  Students in Kinder to Year 6 got to sample some of the fun games in PE last week when coach Lee came to show us just how much fun AFL can be!
