From The Principals Desk
Dear Parents and Carers,
What a wet week 4 we are experiencing! May I firstly acknowledge the level of tolerance and resilience that the students, and staff, are displaying throughout these past couple of days of wet weather restrictions and limited spaces during breaks. We all know what ‘cabin fever’ feels like within a family situation, let alone within a school environment!
Student Engagement in Learning - Outstanding!
We had a visit from some of our diocesan Education Officers and MultiLit (Our K-2 Literacy program Publishers) yesterday. They were here to support our K-2 teachers in the ongoing delivery of the quality literacy program InitiaLit. While the purpose of the visit was aimed at teacher professional development, the visiting panel were so excited and impressed by the level of focus and student engagement during the lessons that they observed. It is a credit to the hard work and determination of both our staff and students that we receive this commendation from every visiting panel that comes to our school. So proud of you all!
Stage 3 Camp - Week 5
Our stage 3 cohort are getting excited about their upcoming camp at Lake Ainsworth next week! We wish them well in their preparation and packing and can’t wait to hear the stories of their experience on their return. As always, we express our gratitude to the teaching staff who will spend the time away from their own families, without incentives or allowances, to allow the students this memorable learning experience.
Confirmation candidates
We ask that everyone keep in their prayers our students are preparing for the sacrament of Confirmation over the next few weeks.
Diocesan Athletics
We wish our St Joseph’s students who will be travelling to Coffs Harbour this Friday to compete in the Diocesan Athletics carnival. Good luck to Esther, Ruby, Sierra, Bailey, Ace, Ivy, Will, Misha, Blake, Violet and Xavier!
Empowering our children through teaching Organisation
Teach your child the essential skill of being organised. Start with assisting them to pack their bag and lay out their uniform the night before. You are helping them on the path to self-responsibility.
Teaching your child organisational skills is a valuable and empowering endeavour that sets the foundation for self-responsibility and a sense of control over their own lives. Here are some tips to help your child develop organisational skills, starting with preparing for school:
- Establish a Routine. Create a consistent daily routine that includes specific times for waking up, getting ready, and leaving for school. A structured routine provides predictability and helps your child develop a sense of time management.
- Prepare the Night Before. Encourage your child to pack their school bag and lay out their uniform the night before. This proactive approach reduces morning stress and ensures that everything needed for the school day is ready to go.
- Use Checklists. Create checklists for morning and evening tasks. Checklists provide a visual guide for your child to follow and help reinforce the habit of being organised. As their skills improve, they may not need the checklist.
- Model Organisation. Lead by example. Children often learn by observing, so showcasing organisational habits reinforces the importance of being well-prepared.
- Adjust and Adapt. Recognise that organisational needs may change over time. Be flexible and willing to adjust strategies based on your child's evolving responsibilities and needs.

Curriculum News
Write On Writing Competition
The three students representing St Joseph's in the NSW Writing Competition this year are Clara Polson, Will Polson and Ivy Hunt. They have written a short creative story in response to this picture. Each newsletter you will be able to hear the children read their creative stories by scanning the QR code.
This week, Ivy Hunt from Year 6 is reading her short story called 'Train 205'. I am sure you will be impressed with the maturity of her writing. Enjoy!

Public Speaking Finalists
A massive congratulations to our public speaking finalists who went away last Thursday to perform their speeches. They are Dustin Casagrande, Harriet Stovold, Clara Polson, Pippa Bourke, William Polson, Bella Higgins and Max Bourke.
We are so proud of how you represented our school! Well done!

100 Days of Kinder
A huge congratulations to our beautiful (old) Kindergarten students who have reached their 100 days of kinder! We celebrated in style with our Year 6 buddies joining us for a fun filled day of activities, dressed as if they were 100 years old! We learnt about royalty, made crowns, drew self portraits of ourselves as 100 years old, made up the number 100 with m&ms, skip counted in 10's to 100 (kinder were exceptional at this) and finished our day off with a movie.
We are so proud of our kindergarten students and how far they have come!"

"Wellbeing through Music" Concert
A Fantastic Day of Music and Bike Safety at St Joseph’s Primary!
What an incredible day we had with our “Wellbeing Through Music” initiative!
Event Highlights:
Vibrant Concert Experience: We enjoyed an electrifying concert featuring the talented CJ Shaw and the dynamic Mr Motion. Their performance was a spectacular highlight, filling the room with music and energy!
Songwriting Magic with CJ Shaw and Mr Motion: After the concert, CJ Shaw and Mr Motion led an inspiring songwriting session for the Stage 2 students. Our students had the opportunity to collaborate with these amazing artists to create a catchy new song about bike safety, focusing on the crucial message of wearing helmets.

St Joseph's Catapult Challenge
Check out the action shots St Joseph's Catapult Challenge: A Huge Success!
What an exciting morning we had with Stage 2’s catapult challenge! Our Stage 2 students who did not attend Zone today, all participating students used 6 paddle pop sticks, 5 rubber bands, a spoon, and an alfoil ball to build their catapults, and the results were incredible.
Our top team launched their ball more than 5 metres!
It was a fantastic display of creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving. A big shoutout to all the participants for making it a memorable event as we celebrate our young engineers!

A big thank you to Mr Quinn for giving his time to help coach the Basketball group along side Mrs Quinn! The students absolutely loved their first week and look forward to the next four sessions to come! Photos will be added of Elective Sport next newsletter.
AFL AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM STARTS THIS WEEK!
This Thursday 15th August the AFL After School Program begins on the Mt St Patrick school oval! It will run for six weeks – every Thursday from 3.20pm – 4.20pm. St Joseph’s students may get on the bus at the end of their school day (teachers on bus duty will help them to know what bus they need to catch) and it will take the students to Mt St Patrick’s where an AFL coach will greet them from the bus and walk them to the oval.
Parents may choose to test the first session for free or scan the “Register” QR Code to pay for the program. This year there will be two programs taking place simultaneously to cater to the older students as well as the younger students. It’s a great way to be active after school without committing to a full season of sport!

Olympic News
Well, our 2024 Summer Olympics are now officially over! What a wonderful result for our country!
18 Gold 19 Silver 16 Bronze
Totalling 53 medals altogether.
Did you know that when Olympians receive their medals at the Paris Olympics, they were also handed a long gold box?
So, what's in the box?
It’s an official Paris Olympics poster by renowned French artist Ugo Gattoni. The poster is a dream representation of a stadium city, echoing the Paris 2024 slogan “Games wide open” and referring to the concept of the Paris Games: bringing sport to the heart of the city.
