    From The Principals Desk

    Dear Parents and Carers,

Another busy term is well underway. While there seems to be something on every day, the students are happily engaged and focused on their learning. Mr Clarke is currently at a principal’s conference in Coffs Harbour and will be back on Friday.

    Stage 3 Camp

I was lucky enough to tag along with the Year 5 and 6 students last week for the Stage 3 camp to Lake Ainsworth. While there, the students participated in a range of activities, many of which were novel.

While they were all fun, there is a purpose to why we want the children to experience new and challenging activities. The challenges of life can be unpredictable. Resilience and perseverance are skills we can develop so that we not only survive this thing we call life, we can thrive!

The students have reflected on their experience at camp in this newsletter. Be sure to see what they thought about it.

Make getting students to school on time every day a top priority.

Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school and themselves. Ensuring that students arrive at school on time every day is crucial for their academic success and well-being. Parents play a crucial role in instilling the importance of punctuality in their children. Here are some strategies for parents to make getting students to school on time every day a top priority:

    • Establish a Consistent Routine. Set a daily routine that includes specific times for waking up, getting ready, having breakfast, and leaving for school. Consistency helps children develop good habits.
    • Model Punctuality. Children often learn by example. Demonstrate the importance of punctuality by being on time for family events, appointments, and other commitments.
    • Limit or Have No Screen Time in the Morning. Minimise distractions such as excessive screen time in the morning. This helps your child stay focused on getting ready for school without unnecessary delays.

The next few weeks are certainly busy with excursions, incursions, gala days, confirmations and liturgies. Be sure to keep up to date by checking the school calendar.

I hope you all have a fabulous week.

    Sharing the Gospel

     GOD MOMENTS

    * When Leo & Hamish picked up rubbish on the playground (without being asked!)

    * When Stage 2 shared their morning prayer through actions and music, it was a          wonderful way to start the day.

    Stage 3 Camp

In week five stage three went on an unforgettable camp experience at Lake Ainsworth Sport & Recreation Center. We did six amazing activities: fencing, orienteering, sailing, rock climbing, kayaking and archery tag.  In my sailing group we had 4 people and Indigo was screaming "our boat is flipping" even though it wasn't and she was freaking out. It was hilarious. Every morning we went for a beach walk and watched the whales volt over the waves. I definitely recommend Lake Ainsworth for a school camp because it's great to make new friends try new things and smash your fears.

    Lalyta B

Camp was AMAZING! We did so many activities such as Kayaking, Sailing, Archery, Rock climbing, Fencing and Orienteering, night games and a movie night. Lake Ainsworth is a tea tree lake. My favourite Activity was Sailing. After a while the wind picked up and we were going so fast. I was steering, Ivy was doing the sail and Indi and Pearl were being ‘Moana.’ All of the screaming, laughing and fun made that activity the best for me. In my cabin were Myself, Pearl, Indi, Ivy, Bella, Amelia, Violet and Sienna. The food was great. We had Burgers, Chicken Snitzels, Eggs on toast, baked beans, yoghurt and fruit, butter chicken, chilli con carne wraps with apple juice, and chicken wraps with apple juice. The staff were so nice and I had the best time.

    Layla

In week 5 Stage 3 went on a long journey to Lennox Head to the Lake Ainsworth Sport and Recreation centre. On this journey they conquered fears, tried new sports and made new friends. The activities they participated in include fencing, orienteering, archery, rock climbing, sailing and kayaking. The staff were so helpful and explained everything clearly, some of Stage 3’s favourite activities were sailing, fencing and orienteering. My favourite memories will definitely be Lalyta’s comedy show, sailing in the lake with friends and eating dinner as one big school family.I would definitely recommend Lake Ainsworth Sport and Recreation centre because of its beaches and activities. So I hope to see you there conquering your fears and making memories that will last forever.

    Imogen

I loved the camp and my two favourite activities were Sailing and Archery tag. The archery tag was two teams red and blue and if you got shot you would go to the other team and the team with the most people won. Sailing was so fun!  Archie, Kobi, Declan, and Zilli, their boat almost flipped and we lost one of our paddles and Mr D/ Tony Davis had to get the paddle we almost flipped because the wind got so strong we were leaning in the water.

    Camp fun!

Congratulations to the four students who finished in the top three in their event/s to progress on to Polding!!  Most schools would be lucky to have one student progress to Polding.  Such a fantastic effort to have four students reaching this level of competition!!  Well done Blake Stuart, Shelby Walsh, Xavier Workman and Bailey Clarkson and an extra special congratulations to Bailey for winning Junior Boys Age Champion!!  We wish you all the best of luck as you prepare for Polding in three weeks time held in Newcastle!

SOCCER AND NETBALL TEAMS SELECTED FOR STAGE 3 GALA DAY:

The Stage 3 Gala Day is set to take place at Arkinstall Park on Friday 6th September.  All schools who are part of the Tweed Zone (8 Catholic Schools from Tweed to Byron) will come together to compete in a Boys Soccer, Girls Soccer and Girls Netball tournament.  Students in Year 5 and 6 who are not part of these teams will join us for a day of rotating sports facilitated by expert coaches in Tennis, AFL, NRL Tag and Netball.

Congratulations to the following students on their selection, ready to represent St Joseph’s in the following sports:

Boys Soccer:  Koby Buckroyd, Luke Stovold, Caleb Bourke, Archie Anderson, Zilli Hatton, Max Bourke, Blake Stuart, Declan Behan, Brock Sasse, Will Hoffman, Nakoha Heterick, Misha Reed, Nate Linkins and Frank Ahrens.

Girls Soccer:  Violet Williams, Ava Bray, Layla Walsh, Indi Asanuma, Pearl Wilkinson, Lani Smith, Emily Pham, Bella Higgins, Imogen Rudman, Ruby Carter, Indigo Cleak, Isla Alley and Zoe Lindsay.

Netball:  Eadie Workman, Ivy Hunt, Ava Hunt, Sienna Alexander, Holly Dorahy, Amelia Alley, Bonnie Lindsay, Annabel Casey, Amira Folkers and Lalyta Brockbank.

    AFL AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM:

The first week has taken place for the AFL After School Program on Mt St Patrick’s school oval!  It will run for five more weeks – every Thursday from 3.20pm – 4.20pm.  Interested parents and students may come down to the oval and join Thursday afternoon – no need to register on line at this late stage.  There is a bus that will transport students from St Joseph’s directly over to Mt St Patrick’s. Parents do not need to be there till closer to finish time.  It’s a great way to be active after school without committing to a full season of sport!

    BASKETBALL IN PE AND BEYOND:

We have been having lots of fun developing our skills in Basketball during PE.  Some students have shown a real interest in the game but unfortunately, we are not able to play a full court of Basketball at school.  Our local club – Tweed Valley Basketball in town (just past the swimming pool at the Seventh Day Adventist grounds) has a fantastic program where you may come down and play games against teams in your age group.  I have been told that interested students may come down and the organisers will do their best to slot them into a team or even create new teams if there are enough numbers!  Monday’s, Tuesday’s and Thursday’s from 4pm are the best times to pop down to the Seventh Day Adventist court and speak to Joanne Fergus or Carla Goronszy.
